Tunheim, a Minnesota-based strategic communications consulting firm, today announced it has been selected to provide strategic marketing and public relations support for the 2016 Ryder Cup at Hazeltine National Golf Club.

“We are proud to partner with the PGA of America for this prestigious event,” said Kathy Tunheim, president and CEO of Tunheim. “These marquee sporting events bring an incredible amount of attention to our region and we look forward to sharing all that Minnesota has to offer, and building on the wonderful success the Ryder Cup has built since 1927.”

Tunheim has become the regional firm of choice for many of the most recent and prominent sporting events in Minnesota, including communications support for this year’s MLB All-Star Week, coordination of the winning bid for the 2018 Super Bowl and public affairs support for the new Vikings stadium. For 24 years, Tunheim has provided insight, strategy and communications services to a wide variety of organizations.

Ryder Cup, the most compelling team event in golf and one of the great spectacles in all of sport, is a biennial event bringing together the United States and Europe in a compelling match-play format contested on a global stage. The event is considered the most coveted ticket in golf and typically reaches more than 630 million homes and nearly 200 countries and territories.

About the Ryder Cup
The Ryder Cup, among the last great professional sporting events where winning, and not prize money, is its own reward, spans 40 competitions over 87 years. The competition was born in 1927, when enterprising English seed merchant Samuel Ryder commissioned the casting of a gold chalice that bears his name. The U.S. Team defeated Great Britain, 9 1/2 to 2 1/2, in the inaugural matches in Worcester, Mass.

Since 1979, the Ryder Cup has involved the finest players from Europe. The Ryder Cup is held biennially with the U.S. and Europe alternating as host. Europe currently has possession of the trophy, having won the Ryder Cup at the Gleneagles Hotel in Perthshire, Scotland.
