Position Summary
The Senior Account Supervisor (Public Affairs) at Tunheim is a key leadership role responsible for overseeing complex client projects and spearheading strategic initiatives in public affairs and campaign management. This role demands effective resource optimization, client portfolio expansion, and a strong commitment to Tunheim values, with a focus on leading and nurturing the firm’s culture. The Senior Account Supervisor (Public Affairs) plays a pivotal role in broadening Tunheim’s service offerings, enhancing client engagement, driving organic growth, and supporting new business efforts as a subject matter expert in public affairs and campaign management.
Role and Responsibilities
Stewardship
- Oversee complex client projects, manage budgets, and ensure alignment with strategic objectives.
- Efficiently allocate resources across projects to maximize outcomes and minimize costs, ensuring optimal use of firm assets.
- Actively explore and develop new areas for client engagement, broadening Tunheim’s service offerings and enhancing client value and contributing to organic growth.
- Manage resources efficiently across projects to maximize outcomes while minimizing costs, ensuring optimal use of firm assets.
- Lead specific Tunheim firm initiatives in areas like marketing or new business development, contributing significantly to the firm’s growth and innovation.
- Strategic Leadership:
- High degree of strategic thinking in formulating messaging, identifying target audiences, conducting research, and developing campaign plans.
- Capable of creating and implementing strategies independently, with minimal direction from clients.
- Visionary leader who can guide teams and projects from concept to execution.
- Integrated Campaign Leadership:
- Experience in leading integrated campaigns across various scopes of work, including policy-based and legislative campaigns.
- Ability to build comprehensive campaign strategies that incorporate diverse tactics.
- Skilled in managing and leading campaigns by building trust and directing team members, grantees, and stakeholders.
Client Experience
- Serve as the primary contact for key clients, fostering deep relationships and ensuring satisfaction and retention.
- Build and maintain strategic relationships within specific industries, enhancing Tunheim’s market presence and business prospects.
- Develop and maintain relationships with high-level corporate and organizational executives, enhancing client satisfaction and retention through strategic engagements and regular campaign progress and outcomes updates.
- Actively foster a supportive and inclusive environment that values open communication and mutual respect among all team members. Ensure that colleagues and direct reports feel valued and supported, contributing to overall job satisfaction and team cohesion.
- Encourage a culture of feedback where direct reports and colleagues can share insights and suggestions to improve service delivery and client satisfaction.
Technical Performance and Precision
- Develop and execute comprehensive communications strategies that enhance client brands across multiple platforms.
- Provide stellar client service by following/leveraging Tunheim client service and project management best practices.
- Provide expert insights locally and regionally, positioning Tunheim as a leader in the marketplace.
- Leverage analytics and data insights to guide campaign strategies and adjust real-time tactics to ensure maximum impact.
- Implement rigorous quality control measures to ensure that all outgoing communications and campaign materials meet Tunheim’s high standards of excellence.
- Working knowledge of digital media tactics and targeting to support and collaborate with the digital team strategically.
Learning and Professional Growth
- Mentor less experienced team members, including Interns, Associates, and Account Strategists, promoting professional growth and adherence to Tunheim’s high standards.
- Represent Tunheim at external events, advancing the firm’s community and industry engagement.
- Promote continuous learning and adopting new digital tools and strategies within the team.
- Develop, mentor, and lead cross-functional teams to foster innovation and integrate digital and social tools into all business endeavors.
- Political Awareness:
- Consistently informed about current events and political developments at the state, regional, national, and global levels.
- Understanding of how political changes impact strategic work and the ability to adjust strategies accordingly.
- In-depth knowledge of Minnesota politics, national clean energy and climate politics, the policymaking and legislative system, and key political players.

- Advanced proficiency with digital tools and platforms for strategic communication and analytics.
Qualifications
Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in communications, public relations, marketing, business, or a related field. Equivalent work experience may be considered.
- Minimum of eight (8) years of public affairs and campaign management experience, with a track record of success in leadership roles within corporate communications, campaign, or agency settings.
- Demonstrated success in managing teams and budgets.
- Strong analytical research skills and ability to analyze content and solve problems effectively.
- Strong project management experience and ability to manage multiple deadlines and projects.
- Superior writing ability and exceptional verbal skills.
- Experience cultivating relationships with and pitching to the media.
- Relevant experience outside Minnesota and the Upper Midwest is valued.
Technology
- Strong project management experience.
- Strong proficiency in digital communication tools and platforms, emphasizing their application in business environments.
- Advanced experience using digital platforms and tools, including media monitoring, content management systems, keyword research, social listening, marketing analytics, and technology systems, including but not limited to Zoom, Microsoft Teams, and Mailchimp.
- Advanced expert knowledge, skills, and abilities using Microsoft Office, Adobe Pro, and other related data management systems to perform work assignments and communicate with internal and external customers.
- Must have a private and secure home office space.
- Ability to use the internet for research, communications, training, and portals with minimal outages.
