Position Summary
The Digital Ad Buyer is responsible for leading the development and execution of comprehensive digital strategies that align with our clients’ marketing objectives. This role involves conducting in-depth market research, audience identification and targeting, managing media budgets, and negotiating digital media buys across various channels. The individual will ensure consistency and quality in all digital media planning and buying activities while optimizing campaign performance through data analysis and strategic adjustments. The Digital Ad Buyer will also play a key role in maintaining client relationships and providing mentorship to junior team members.
Role and Responsibilities
Stewardship
- Create and execute comprehensive media strategies that align with marketing objectives using in-depth market research and audience analysis.
- Develop detailed media plans, including budget allocation, channel selection, and tactical implementation.
- Utilize industry-standard planning tools for effective decision-making.
- Proactively seek new and innovative solutions to enhance media plans and buying approaches.
- Ensure consistent messaging across all channels, including digital, print, and broadcast.
Client Experience
- Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, serving as a trusted advisor.
- Proactively seek new solutions to enhance client campaigns.
- Clearly communicate campaign strategies, performance metrics, and optimizations to clients in a professional manner.
- Actively listen to client feedback and adjust media plans to better align with client goals and expectations.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with media vendors.
- Provide strategic guidance on selecting and implementing various paid ad types, including political or issue-based ads, ensure compliance with advertising regulations and maximize campaign reach.
Technical Performance and Precision
- Create and execute advanced audience targeting strategies for paid media campaigns, focusing on reaching key audiences, including BIPOC groups and specialized interest areas.
- Utilize knowledge of targeting limitations and capabilities to optimize campaign effectiveness.
- Collaborate with external data vendors and brokers to acquire custom audience lists and data sets that enhance targeting precision. Ensure the integration of these lists into paid media campaigns to achieve specific client goals.
- Manage media budgets and oversee campaign implementation across all channels.
- Negotiate favorable media rates and ensure campaigns are delivered on time and within budget.
- Utilize social, search, programmatic and native advertising platforms to execute and optimize campaigns.
- Identify and target key audiences.
- Monitor campaign performance and make data-driven optimizations.
- Lead the planning and execution of paid campaigns across platforms.
- Continuously assess industry trends and competitors to refine media strategies and gain a competitive edge.
- Track and analyze campaign data to measure ROI, utilizing data visualization tools to present findings.
- Prepare comprehensive reports and strategic recommendations.
Learning and Professional Growth
- Mentor junior team members and lead training sessions.
- Introduce and train the team on new analytics tools and industry best practices.
- Contribute to the development of processes and best practices.

Key Performance Indicators
Media Budget Management
- Metric: Ensure media spending is within ±5% of the allocated budget.
- Goal: 100% compliance in budget adherence for all campaigns.
New Client Acquisition
- Metric: Number of new clients acquired through media strategies and campaigns.
- Goal: Contribute to securing at least 5 new clients annually through targeted media efforts.
Client Satisfaction
- Metric: Achieve an average client satisfaction score of 4.5 or higher (on a 5-point scale) in post-campaign evaluations.
- Goal: 95% of client feedback forms should meet this satisfaction level.
Campaign Optimization
- Metric: Implement at least three data-driven optimizations per campaign based on performance analysis.
- Goal: 90% of campaigns should demonstrate improved performance metrics post-optimization.
Campaign Turnaround Time
- Metric: Average time taken to launch a campaign from initial brief to implementation.
- Goal: Ensure 100% of campaigns are launched within 15 business days of receiving the client brief.
Targeting Effectiveness
- Metric: Percentage of paid media campaigns that achieve targeted audience reach.
- Goal: Achieve a 75%+ match rate for targeted audiences through the integration of custom lists from data vendors.
Campaign ROI with Custom Lists
- Metric: Return on investment (ROI) for paid campaigns using custom data sets.
- Goal: Increase the ROI of targeted paid campaigns by 10% within the first six months through the use of precise audience targeting and data-driven strategies.
Team Development
- Metric: Conduct at least 1 internal training session per quarter for team skill enhancement.
- Goal: 100% attendance and participation in scheduled training sessions.
Professional Development
- Metric: Participate in annual professional development activities (e.g., workshops, certifications, industry conferences).
- Goal: Complete a minimum of 3 professional development activities annually, with at least 1 activity focused on new industry trends or advanced skills.

Qualifications
Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in advertising, marketing, communications, or a related field.
- Minimum of five (5) years of hands-on experience in media planning and buying, with a strong emphasis on digital media.
- Advanced certifications in digital marketing and analytics are a plus.
- Strong analytical research and audience targeting skills and ability to analyze content and solve problems effectively.
- Ability to maintain professionalism under pressure and meet deadlines consistently.
- Strong project management experience and ability to manage multiple deadlines and projects.
Technology
- Strong proficiency in digital and/or communication tools and platforms, with an emphasis on their application in business environments.
- Proficiency in using various demand-side platforms (DSPs), ad servers, and analytics tools.
- Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and Looker Studio for data analysis and presentations.
- Advanced expert knowledge, skills, and abilities using Microsoft Office, and other related data management systems used to perform work assignments and communicate with internal and external customers.
- Must have private and secure home office space. You will be provided with a laptop.
- You will be expected to provide your cell phone and service.
- Ability to use the internet for research, communications, training, and portal with minimal outages.
Travel
- While regular travel is not anticipated, there may be an occasional trip for Tunheim or a client.
Language Skills
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret documents such as policies, procedure manuals, research information, review articles, and various periodicals.
- Ability to speak effectively and present information to all levels of internal and external customers. Ability to author routine reports and correspondence.
- Ability to resolve and respond to common inquiries or complaints from all customers.
