Tom Vandervoort

Tom Vandervoort works under the mantra of “building bridges between communities.” He has over 35 years of strategic consulting experience in issues management, relationship building and marketing communications for the corporate, government, and non-profit sectors. Along the way, he developed the Influencing Influentials© and ASIST© issues management processes.
Vandervoort’s practice incorporates crisis management, community relations and environmental assignments. His clients include manufacturers, energy producers, universities and government units including liaison with major environmental groups. His experience includes film production, marketing and bridge building assignments throughout North America and in Asia. As Divisional Vice President Public Affairs for Browning Ferris Industries, Vandervoort ran national issues management, government affairs, media relations and community programs. He later served as Senior Vice President, Tunheim Santrizos Public Relations.
Earlier in his career, Vandervoort worked in public information and government affairs for Twin Cities metropolitan government agencies. He also spent a number of years in communications capacities in Germany. Vandervoort began his career in public relations at the Minnesota Vikings Football Club.
A St. Paul resident, Vandervoort served on the Minnesota Chamber of Commerce and St. Paul Red Cross boards of directors. Vandervoort has lead an issues management and environmental communications sequence at the University of St. Thomas Master in Business Administration program. He holds a bachelor’s degree in journalism and political science from the University of St. Thomas.
Fun Fact
Tom races sailboats on the St. Croix River and is a high performance driving instructor.
