The transcontinental railroad used a golden spike. We used a giant bronze baseball mitt. And when the oversize baseball was dropped from the ball park’s upper reaches — landing softly in the mitt — it marked the official opening of Target Plaza. Unveiling this inviting public space was important to Target and they entrusted Tunheim to pull it together. The event featured music, fun activities, food and Twins’ legend Kent Hrbek. Plus it generated coverage locally and statewide creating even more community interest and buzz for the gateway to Target Field. Let’s see a golden spike do that.
