Don Hill

ACE Panelist

Don Hill has over 25 years of education and labor organization leadership, offering Tunheim Partners clients counsel on organizational planning, program implementation, budget management, political organizing, staff negotiation and membership motivation. Currently, Don is a labor management consultant for Robish & Associates in Lockport, New York. In addition, he is a consultant for School Talk, a biweekly show on education, produced by Bridgewater State College in Massachusetts, and President of Americas Child, a nonprofit organization to aid in-need school children through classroom teachers.

Hill served as president of the Minnesota Education Association where his organizational development leadership resulted in a reorganization and restructuring of the association to bring it into the mainstream of organization politics. Under his leadership, the MEA established the MEA Crisis Fund, legal strategies for professional educator employment security, MEA Childrens Fund and MEA Art Show and Collection program. In addition, he founded and served on Minnesota Association of United Labor, Public Employees of Minnesota, Independent Unions of Minnesota; and facilitated development of the Citizens Lobby, a coalition of human services advocates. Prior to that, Hill was Executive Director of NEA Rhode Island where he was a founding member of Rhode Island Electoral Coalition and was president of Ocean States Action, a coalition of progressive organizations and unions.

Among the many awards and citations presented to Don are Distinguished Service Awards, outstanding Alumnus, and the Donald C. Hill Award, created in his name by the Minnesota Education Association, for his unparalleled contribution to the welfare of students, education and the profession. He is a frequent lecturer and speaks on education and labor issues and practices. Don graduated from St. Cloud State College and did graduate work at Minnesota State University (formerly Mankato State University).
